The Artist

Artist's Statement:

I come from a rich and varied, eclectic background of media, including textiles, computer-enhanced graphics, and acrylics. After years creating fiber pi
eces, I switched to pencil, which allows for clarity of image.

After several years working in pencil, I found my skills increase to a level I would never have imagined. I began painting again, in both watercolors and acrylics. In 2005, I took a class in pastel, and have been working in that medium, as well.

My passions include Feng Shui and Bonsai, as well as reptiles, especially iguanas and turtles, and saxophones and other musical instruments.

When the weather is warm enough, I am outside painting in watercolors. Otherwise, I am enchanted with our 2 turtles and many vegetables.

Artist's statement poem:

Sharp hard black pencil- yang
Soft white cotton paper- yin
I seek reflected internal balance
Wisdom of the far east from my teachers
Faith's middle eastern essence of my ancestors
Mix here in small spaces
Record of growth
Paths of energy
Seasons of plants
Claws that cling in my heart
Woman's strength
Balance

Balanced
on the sharp blade
of equinox

Water becomes wood
fear becomes action
Yin becomes Yang
transitions
unreliable fluids
in a transforming body
So much has been resolved

All winter,
we have prepared for spring
Harsh physical and emotional
testing and transitions
to prepare for
a spiritual and cultural journey

I have not yet
heard the turtle's voice
but many mornings
I have seen her dancing
